<p style="text-align: center;">As a society, we have very few habits that encourage balance between the extremes of fast-paced living and sheer exhaustion.  Restorative yoga teaches us how to find that balance. In fact, when practiced regularly, restorative postures can help to heal the effects of chronic stress, enhance concentration, alleviate insomnia and anxiety, and promote a sense of overall well-being.  Restorative yoga is also a perfect complement to a Vinyasa Yoga or Power Yoga practice, because it teaches us to actively relax, and facilitates integration of the body, mind, and spirit.This workshop will begin with a short discussion about restorative yoga, during which we&#8217;ll answer any questions about the practice. A short, warming flow will get things moving before we settle into a series of intense but supportive restorative poses to encourage active relaxation by opening your body and calming your mind.  As the restorative series progresses, you&#8217;ll journey deeper into yourself, and relax into the sweet sounds of sacred chants and bhajans performed by Bryna.</p>

<strong>Jill Manning</strong> has devoted herself to the study and practice of yoga since 1998.  In June 2000 she received her initial certification from Integral Yoga Institute in New York City, but has gone on and continues to study with many of the world&#8217;s most revered living yoga masters, including Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, with whom she has spent fourteen weeks at his yoga shala during her 2006, 2007, and 2008 trips to Mysore, India. Jill&#8217;s other notable teachers and mentors include David Keil, Joan White and R. Sharath Rangaswamy.</p>
<p>A graduate of New York University, Jill has studied the intellectual aspects of yoga as well as the physical and spiritual ones. Her scholarly understanding of the Bhagavad-Gita and the Yoga Sutra&#8217;s, along with other Shastras, brings an important dimension to her own practice as well as her teaching style. During her weeks traveling throughout India, Jill immersed herself in the country&#8217;s culture (and the Great Ganga). She has studies Sanskrit with Manorama and with Sri Lakshmish Bhat of Mysore, India, to further round her understanding of the yoga tradition and to place an asana practice in a larger context for herself and her students.</p>
<p>Jill co-taught Wake Up Yoga&#8217;s 250-hour Yoga Alliance registered teacher training program from 2004-2009.  Currently Jill is preparing for her fourth pilgrimage to India this December further steeping in the Yoga Tradition and connecting to the lineage of Ashtanga Yoga. Recently relocated to Providence, RI, Jill is excited to bring Ashtanga Yoga to this community, and strongly believes that everyone can benefit from this practice. Jill makes her new home in the Armory District with her husband Mike and two dogs Charlie, and Angie.</p>
<p><strong>About the Mysore Method</strong><br />
Yoga, for thousands of years, has been taught from teacher to student on a one-to-one basis. Traditionally, a student has been taken through his or her own development at an appropriate pace. This method is still used in Mysore, India where Sri K. Pattabhi Jois taught this method, and his grandson, R. Sharath Rangaswamy, teaches today.<br />
In Mysore classes, students are taught individually in a group setting. Beginners are introduced to a set sequence of poses little by little and are encouraged to remember the sequence as they progress. More experienced practitioners are guided to deepen and further develop their practice, as they more through each series. Thus each student works within the traditional series, but with integrity at his or her own pace.</p>
<p>The consistency of sequence in Ashtanga yoga allows students to focus on the sound and rhythm of the breath rather than on the voice of a teacher, making practice a moving meditation and allowing a deepening connection to the practice. As students advance through the Ashtanga series&#8217; at a pace that matches their individual needs and abilities, they continue to receive individual, tailored instruction, hands on adjustments, and<br />
personal attention from the teacher.<strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>The goal of the workshop</strong><br />
The goal of the workshop is to provide students with a clear understanding and awareness of the Ashtanga methodology as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. By calling upon the guidance of her teacher, David Keil, and her experiences during her annual pilgrimages to Mysore (’06, ’07, ’08, ‘09), Jill will lay a proper and strong foundation on which the students can confidently build self-practices and continue their studies. Over the course of the class we will explore the foundations of the Ashtanga practice by studying the external postures and working to develop awareness of the more subtle aspects such as the prana (breath), bandha (energy) and dristi (focus). Throughout the class Jill will cover the opening and closing mantras, some history on the origin of Ashtanga, debunk some widespread myths, share some personal tips and tricks as well her own stock of stories and experiences. The weekend will culminate with led (traditionally counted) practice of the asanas (postures) covered during instruction. The workshop is open to practitioners of all levels; whether just beginning to explore the system or<br />
looking to clear up any confusion, hopefully all attendees will fall in love with the divine details and<br />
keep these lessons close for a long time.</div>

She also produces and directs theater and film productions, mainly around her activist causes.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">These 22 focused classes accompany the summer <em>FORREST YOGA TEACHER TRAINING COURSE</em> (you do not have to be a trainee to attend) and will take you on a physical and mental journey deep into the core of your very being. Each class is designed and sequenced to build on previous classes to help students make the most progress in a brief amount of time.  Take your yoga practice beyond the mat and try one of the most vigorous and demanding yoga practices around. Through a carefully constructed and rigorous series of yoga asanas, Forrest Yoga will open you up to the amazing quality of feeling that lives inside each of us.  These intensives, designed by Ana Forrest, will take you on a physical and mental journey deep into the core of your very being. You will create a heightened sense of physical and spiritual awareness while challenging every muscle and cell in your body.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Note: </strong>Participants can sign up for the full 22-day series, 11 days or 5 day. Due to the intense nature of this program, all participants must take their first class July 3,4 or 5th. No participant (no matter what level of yoga practitioner or experience) can begin after July 6th. This is to protect the integrity of the course for and for the safety of all.  This restriction applies to all participants EXCEPT previous Forrest Yoga Foundation graduates.</p>

Students learn names of bones, muscles, and connective tissues and how to locate them in their bodies. Why and how we are different from each other becomes the basis of how to use Forrest Yoga as a tool to develop our strengths and strengthen our weaknesses.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">This fascinating three-day anatomy intensive will give yoga teachers new tools to communicate the benefits of Forrest Yoga. Ellen Heed studied yoga intensively with Ana Forrest for 12 years and designed this class specifically to address the needs of Forrest Yoga Teacher Trainees. This class satisfies the 20-hour Anatomy requirement for the National Yoga Alliance.<br />

Module 1 : Reading the Bones: Posture, Alignment, and Spinal Pathology<br />
Four Hours </strong><br />
In this module, we will learn how to use visual cues to assess the emotional history of any individual by reading the curves of the spine.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">The module will also cover the physiology of bone formation, the plasticity of bone, and describe the effects of structural stress on our skeleton.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">We will also learn how yoga can be used as an effective tool to improve alignment and the effects of gravity and aging.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Module 2 : Structural Muscles and Emotion in the Body<br />
Four Hours</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">This module will focus on learning the twelve most important muscles in the body.<br />
These muscles contain discreet emotional states and content that can be accessed<br />
through yoga practice.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Discover the difference between postural and cosmetic muscles and learn to direct your yoga practice where it really counts.</p>

Our genetic inheritance determines that we’re all different. Learn the advantages of your genetic gifts and how to custom tailor your yoga practice for a perfect fit.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">This module will cover the physiology of connective tissue and joint structure. We will examine various injuries, how they occur, and how to prevent them.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">Biochemistry has a universal influence over the practice of yoga. This workshop explores the relationship between body type and blood chemistry.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">What we put into and onto our bodies affects out yoga practice. What do dietary imbalance, toxic colons, nerve irritation, and physical injuries have in common?</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Module 5 : The Biomechanics of Breath &amp;<br />
The Nervous System: Hardware of the Chakras Four Hours<br />
</strong><br />
Breath is the soul of yoga, driven by not one, but four diaphragms. Learn the elements of inspiration and how prana travels through the body.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">We will explore breath from an East/West perspective. This module will move from the minute details of oxygen exchange in the cell to the use of breath as ecstatic practice.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">We will complete our East/West dialogue by mapping the charkas directly<br />
into the anatomy of the nervous system.</p>
